An evening with John Scales, Steve Allen, and friends
For Dons supporters who can’t get enough of stories about the Crazy Gang and 1988 FA Cup glory, we’ve got an unmissable event coming up at the Cherry Red Records Stadium.
On Wednesday 21 May, we’ll be joined by John Scales, a member of the playing squad from that magical day at Wembley, for a special event in the 1889 Lounge.
Cup Final glory was a remarkable way to end John’s first season with the Dons and during a seven-year spell in yellow and blue he played a key part as Wimbledon regularly upset the Premier League big boys.
An England international who was capped three times, John also played in the top-flight for Liverpool, Spurs, and Ipswich Town.
John will be joined on stage by Steve Allen, Wimbledon’s physio in 1988, and friends, from a stand-out era in Wimbledon’s history.
Wembley success for Steve also came at the end of his first season with the Dons and he spent 14 years with us, helping to establish Wimbledon as a Premier League force.
Now working in private healthcare as a qualified Chartered Physiotherapist, Steve’s three decades in football also included spells at Crystal Palace, Cardiff City, West Ham United, Charlton Athletic, Portsmouth and Bristol City.
With their vast experiences in football, John and Steve are sure to have more than a few interesting stories to tell on the night!

Join Goals 4 GOSH on Sunday 25th May at AFC Wimbledon's Plough Lane Cherry Records stadium will be hosting a family fundraising football day to support raising important funding for Great Ormond Street Hospital children’s charity.
We will be joined by celebrities, social media influencers, former premier league & international players... including some former Don's taking to the pitch in our main exhibition match that kicks off at 4pm.
Your ticket to this event is an all-day ticket which will enable you to come watch the social media influencer & local business tournament that kicks off at 10.30am, followed by the celebrity & ex pro’s exhibition match kicking off at 4pm.
Goals 4 GOSH have hosted a number of celebrity charity football matches since 2021 to support raise funding in helping build the new cancer care centre at Great Ormond Street Hospital. Come down to support a fun family day of football & activities for all to enjoy.

The Club is pleased to announce details of a testimonial game for Will Nightingale, after his two decades as an AFC Wimbledon player.
The following players are already confirmed for the fixture: Bayo Akinfenwa, Jake Reeves, Ayoub Assal, Barry Fuller, Paul Robinson, Andy Barcham, Jack Currie, Alan Reeves, Callum Kennedy, Danny Kedwell, Jon Main, Seb Brown, Ethan Chislett, Toby Sibbick, Shane McLoughlin, Joe Piggot, Alex Woodyard, Ben Judge, Karleigh Osborne, Ryan Sweeney, George Oakley.
Neal Ardley and Simon Bassey will take charge of one team, with Wally Downes and Mark Robinson as joint managers of the other.
Will Nightingale said: “This club has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. It’s where I’ve lived out my dream and I’ll be forever grateful for that. I’m so proud of everything this Club stands for, on and off the pitch and in the community.
“Celebrating at Plough Lane with the players, managers, and fans who’ve made it all possible feels like a full circle moment and I can’t wait to share the pitch, the memories, and the love for this club one more time.”
Along with proceeds from ticket sales, we’ll have other exciting ways of supporting Will through the following:
- Auction to bid for shirts via the MatchWornShirt website
- Match/ball sponsorship
- Auction to be a part of the management staff for either side on the day
